Jackalope Playwrights Lab Fall 2019 Session

Jackalope Theatre is now accepting applications for the Fall 2019 session of Playwrights Lab. This session will be team-taught by company members Calamity West and Kaiser Zaki Ahmed.

This eight-week writing intensive is designed for artists interested in developing new, full-length plays through a workshop development process, and meets on Saturdays 10:00am-2:00pm at The Frontier.

COST: $225

TEACHING ARTIST BIOS:

Calamity West is a Chicago-based, award-winning playwright. Her plays have appeared at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Roundabout, The Goodman, Jackalope Theatre, Steep Theatre, Sideshow Theatre, and TimeLine. In 2014 Calamity was recipient of the 3Arts Award. She teaches playwriting at the University of Chicago and Webster University, is a company member at Jackalope Theatre Company and an artistic associate of Sideshow Theatre Company. Calamity holds a BA in dramatic writing from Webster University and an MFA in creative writing from California College of the Arts. She is represented by ICM Partners. Kaiser Zaki Ahmed is a Chicago-based theatre director, actor and teacher. An alum of Columbia College Chicago’s Theatre Directing program under the mentorship of Sheldon Patinkin, Kaiser specializes in actor-driven new American plays. He served as the Founding Artistic Director of Jackalope from its inception in May of 2008 through the end of 2011, and now serves as the Associate Artistic Director. At Jackalope, Kaiser has directed 1980 (Or Why I’m Voting for John Anderson), The Raid, The Killing of Michael X, Long Way Go Down, Slaughter City, and co-directed Jackalope’s inaugural production The Last Exodus of American Men.
