The Corona Award honors an individual who has played an important role in supporting and nurturing the Chicago Theatre community as well as Eclipse Theatre. Past Corona Award Recipients include Chicago casting director Jane Alderman, Timeline Theatre Managing Director Elizabeth K. Auman, Former Steppenwolf Associate Artistic Director Erica Daniels, Goodman Theatre Associate Producer Steve Scott, Goodman Artistic Associate Chuck Smith, League of Chicago Theatres Executive Director Deb Clapp, Mary Arrchie Artistic Director Richard Cotovsky, and Goodman Resident Stage Manager Joseph Drummond and Court Theatre Resident Artist and Director Ron OJ Parson. The Corona Award derives its name from the outer atmosphere of the sun most easily seen during a total Eclipse. The Latin root of the word means crown. The event will be hosted by Goodman Theatre Artistic Associate and Eclipse ensemble member Steve Scott. An assortment of light appetizers and cash bar will be offered during the evening as well as a silent auction.
The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation supports over 150 small, professional arts organizations of all disciplines throughout the Chicago region. Its belief is that most of the art in the region is the product of small groups, which reach into every neighborhood and provide opportunities for new and emerging artists. It offers unrestricted general operating grants, and multi-year grants to small organizations to allow them the flexibility to use the funds as they see fit and to provide a sense of stability. Its goal is to help strengthen an organization so that more of its time, energy and funds can go to the creation of the art itself. Eclipse Theatre Company and a multitude of other small theatre companies have benefitted from the support of the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation for many years.
