The Red Kite Program creates dynamic learning experiences for children on the autism spectrum. The curriculum aims to strengthen skills in functional communication, socialization and imaginary play. Red Kite Teaching Artist
Teaching Artists facilitate classroom workshops in Chicago Public Schools. Either in the position of Lead Teacher or Assistant, this role delivers the Drama Time curriculum that is specifically designed for children on the autism spectrum and uses a combination of music, drama games and sensory activities.
Perform the role of Lead Teacher or Assistant, and collaborate effectively with teaching team to deliver curriculum. Prepare materials and lesson plans for each workshop session. Communicate clearly and effectively with CPS classroom teachers and Red Kite Project Coordinator. A willingness to adapt to the needs of the student and class, and ability to implement strategies to encourage student’s success. Must approach work enthusiastically and empathetically.
We are looking for experienced teaching artists, excited about working with children with developmental differences, collaborating with CPS teachers, and delivering dynamic original curriculum. Preferred candidates have 1-3 years of teaching experience and an expressed interest in working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Teachers and performers with experience in special education, behavioral therapy, drama therapy, and inclusive performance are strongly encouraged to apply.
